STEP Program

Developing individual gifts.

“All human beings are born with unique gifts. The healthy functioning of our community depends on its capacity to develop each gift.” —Peter Senge

As a leader in special education in Massachusetts since 1949, Dearborn Academy has continued to develop new curricula, new strategies for teaching children with learning differences and new programs.

Our STEP Program, for example, provides high-quality assessment and stabilization for students who have been temporarily excluded from their public schools. It is an example of our commitment to ensuring that children with learning differences or other challenges do not fall through the cracks. With our parent organization, Schools for Children, we will continue to develop programs like STEP that help kids get back on track.

Training new teachers and child therapists is also part of our mission. To that end, we partner with area universities to offer practica and internship experiences. We host speakers and special events, and we help schools create and run special education classrooms. Educators can also engage us for consulting, reading workshops and teacher training.

We are eager to share what we know and to help schools everywhere join with us to ensure that every child in our care has the opportunity for a high-quality, student-centered education, no matter what their needs, their differences or their abilities.
